First, a pool company that only sells Gunite (concrete) pools will generally state that their pool is the best – of course, this same sentiment is shared by the pool company that only sells Fiberglass pools. Exquisite Pool & Spa sells and installs both products and therefore we are basically unbiased when it comes to discussing the pros and cons of each. We truly believe that both Concrete and Fiberglass pools are great products and in the end the decision of which is best is up to you based on your evaluation of the differences I share below.
Let us start with the biggest question in everyone’s mind which is cost! Yes, the dollar signs which are foremost in our thoughts with not only swimming pools, but any major construction project. In our experience, the cost for a Concrete versus a Fiberglass pool is approximately the same considering each has basic features and is the same shape and size. However, let’s take a look at some other information for you to consider in making your decision.
I guess the bottom line is what kind of look are you interested in – do you want to be able to customize the design and have full range of thought with regard to the shape of the pool, placement of steps, size and location of swim outs, lighting location, etc – if so then concrete (gunite) may be for you.
Do you want to pick from a standard range of designs, are you okay with standard limited depths, slopes, and pool width, not concerned with customizing, want to swim in the least amount of time, want a pool that is somewhat easier to maintain than a concrete (gunite pool) – then you might want Fiberglass.
